Hadith 438

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ (زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ) أَنَّ فَأْرَةً وَقَعَتْ فِي سَمْنٍ (زَادَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ: جَامِدٍ) فَمَاتَتْ، فَسُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: ((خُذُوهَا وَمَا حَوْلَهَا فَأَلْقُوهُ وَكُلُوهُ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the wife of the Messenger, Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), reports: A mouse fell into solidified ghee and died. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about it, he said: "Remove it and the ghee around it, throw them away, and eat the rest."
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Such a mouse is impure (najis), therefore if it falls into something solid, only the affected part will be discarded, and if the substance is liquid, then all of it will become impure.
