Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Hatim is a part of the Ka‘bah, therefore, during circumambulation (tawaf), one should circle from outside the Hatim. Now, there is a wall present over this section which is four to five feet high and three to four feet wide. The fact that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not touch (perform istilam of) the two corners of the Bayt Allah on the side of the Hatim, and the reason that Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Umar radi Allahu anhu has stated for this, is his personal understanding and jurisprudential reasoning (fiqh). Otherwise, when the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave instructions to Sayyidah ‘A’ishah radi Allahu anha regarding the reconstruction of the Ka‘bah, at that time he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam should also have clarified the issue of touching (istilam) these two corners. Due to lack of funds, the Quraysh were not able to construct the entire building.
