Abu Tufail says: Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) both came to Makkah Mukarramah. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) performed Tawaf and touched all the corners of the House of Allah. Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) only touched the Yemeni corners. But Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: No part of the House of Allah should be left out. Imam Shu’bah says: The narrators have reported this hadith in different ways. They say that Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that no part of the House of Allah can be left out, but he narrated this hadith from Qatadah in this very manner.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This was the personal opinion of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah radi Allahu anhu that all four corners should be touched (istilam), but when Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhuma narrated the practice of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he (Mu'awiyah) acknowledged that practice, and this is the hallmark of a believer: when the truth becomes clear, he abandons his own opinion and follows the truth. Indeed, there is virtue and greatness in turning towards the truth.
Readers are requested to try to understand this point: at times, the demands of our own understanding are different, and the demands of obedience to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam are different. The Ka'bah has four corners; in one corner is the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad). The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam legislated four ways of performing istilam (touching or kissing) of it, whereas for the Yemeni Corner (Rukn Yamani), he ordered, as much as possible, only to touch it, and the remaining two corners were to be left completely. Now, if someone starts kissing the Yemeni Corner or begins to perform istilam of the other two corners as well, then he should be told the same thing that Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu said to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah radi Allahu anhu, and to which he (Mu'awiyah) affirmed in response.
Even now, during tawaf (circumambulation), many people adhere to the following practices, all of which are contrary to the Shari'ah: pointing towards the Black Stone and kissing the hands, kissing the Yemeni Corner or pointing towards it, making loud collective dhikr (remembrance) during tawaf, arranging specific supplications for each circuit, pushing and shoving excessively to touch the Yemeni Corner, kiss the Black Stone, or reach the Multazam, trampling on people's feet, and brushing against the bodies of non-mahram women.
