Hadith 435

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: A Jew invited the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to a meal of barley bread and gravy with rancid fat, and he, peace and blessings be upon him, accepted it.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … On one hand, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is accepting the invitation of a Jew, and on the other hand, he is saying that if the Companions do not find any other vessels, then they should wash and use the vessels of Jews, Christians, and Magians. The way to reconcile these (apparently differing) reports is as follows: when non-Muslims cook in their vessels such things that are forbidden for Muslims, then in a situation of necessity, their vessels should be washed and then used. And if these people use such things that are lawful (halal) for Muslims, or if they invite Muslims to such things, then their vessels will also be considered pure, and the food will also be permissible.
