It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: We used to be with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and among the spoils obtained from the polytheists, we would also get water skins and vessels, but we would distribute them, even though all of them were from dead animals.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: ... All of them were from dead animals. The reason for this was that the slaughtering of disbelievers was not considered valid. However, regarding spoils of war (mal-e-ghanīmah) or other such types of property, the law of our Shari‘ah is that unless there is clear evidence of something being unlawful, it will be considered pure and permissible. Regarding the waterskins, there existed these possibilities and probabilities: that they might have been tanned, or brought from the territories of the People of the Book (Ahl al-Kitab), or that the animal might have been slaughtered by the People of the Book.
