عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((إِنَّ مَسْحَ الرُّكْنِ الْيَمَانِيِّ وَالرُّكْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ يَحُطُّ الْخَطَايَا حَطًّا))
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Touching the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone erases sins.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … There are four ways to perform istilam (touching or saluting) of the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad): (1) to kiss it, (2) to touch the Black Stone with one’s hand and then kiss the hand, (3) to touch the Black Stone with a stick or something similar and then kiss the stick, and if all these methods are impossible, then (4) to face towards it from a distance and merely gesture towards it. As for the matter of the Yemeni Corner (Rukn Yamani), it is legislated to touch it with the hand as much as possible; if touching it is impossible or entails excessive hardship, then the one performing tawaf (circumambulation) should pass by it without gesturing towards it or turning towards it. Kissing this corner or gesturing towards it is not legislated.
