Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir radi Allahu anhu that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performed “raml” (brisk walk) from the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad) to the Black Stone in three circuits, and in four circuits he walked normally. (Muslim) On the occasion of ‘Umrah al-Qada, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performed raml from the Black Stone to the Yemeni Corner (Rukn Yamani) in the first three circuits of the arrival circumambulation (tawaf al-qudum), but on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage (Hajjat al-Wada‘), he performed raml from the Black Stone to the Black Stone, i.e., in the entire circuit, as is understood from this hadith. Imam Mubarakpuri rahimahullah says: The action mentioned in the hadith of Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu occurred on the occasion of ‘Umrah al-Qada in 7 AH, whereas the action mentioned in the hadith of Sayyiduna Jabir radi Allahu anhu occurred in 10 AH, therefore, the last action of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam will be taken, and the earlier action will be considered abrogated. (Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi: 2/92) In summary, the entire raml will be performed in the first three circuits.
