Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered Makkah Mukarramah, he recited this supplication: "O Allah! Do not make our deaths occur here, until You take us out from here."
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This supplication could only be made by those who had migrated from Makkah al-Mukarramah for the sake of Allah Ta’ala. The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, including himself, intended the group of Muhajirun (emigrants). The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam disliked that either he himself or any Muhajir should die in Makkah, so that the honor of migration would remain. For this reason, he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam expressed sorrow over Sayyiduna Sa’d ibn Khawlah radi Allahu anhu, because he passed away in Makkah al-Mukarramah, and he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((Allahumma amdi li-ashabi hijratahum, wa la turuddahum ‘ala a’qabihim, lakinna al-ba’isa Sa’d ibn Khawlah.)) … “O Allah! Complete the migration of my Companions for them, and do not turn them back on their heels, except the unfortunate Sa’d ibn Khawlah.” (Sahih Bukhari: 3936, Muslim: 1628)
The specific supplications recited upon seeing the Ka’bah, their chains of narration are weak. For example: Mak’hool says: When the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would enter Makkah al-Mukarramah and see the Baytullah, he would raise his hands and say Allahu Akbar, and then recite this supplication: ((Allahumma anta as-salam wa minka as-salam fa hayyina rabbana bis-salam, Allahumma zid hadha al-bayta tashrifan wa ta’zeeman wa mahabatan wa zid man hajjahu awi’tamarahu takriman wa tashrifan wa ta’zeeman wa birran)) (Sunan al-Bayhaqi, its chain is weak due to being mursal mu’dal)
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah ibn Asid radi Allahu anhu says that when the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam looked towards the Baytullah, he said: ((Allahumma zid baytaka hadha tashrifan wa takriman wa birran wa mahabatan.)) (Mu’jam Kabir, Mu’jam Awsat, in this there is ‘Asim ibn Sulayman Kuzi, a narrator who is abandoned.)
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((Turfa’u al-aydi fi ad-du’a li-istiqbal al-bayt.)) … “When coming before the Baytullah, supplicate by raising the hands.” (Sunan Sa’id ibn Mansur, Sunan Bayhaqi, in this there is Abdullah ibn Abdur Rahman ibn Abu Layla, who is weak.)
Sayyiduna Jabir ibn Abdullah radi Allahu anhu was asked: Should a person raise his hands upon seeing the Baytullah? He replied: When we performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, we used to do so. (Jami’ Tirmidhi: 855, but this hadith too is weak.)
People should, before entering Makkah al-Mukarramah or any other city or settlement, act upon the following general hadith and recite the supplication mentioned therein.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Suhayb that when the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would see a settlement which he intended to enter, upon seeing it he would recite this supplication:
((Allahumma rabba as-samawati as-sab’i wa ma azlalna, wa rabba al-ardina as-sab’i wa ma aqlalna, wa rabba ash-shayateen wa ma adlalna wa rabba ar-riyah wa ma dharayna, as’aluka khayra hadhihi al-qaryati wa khayra ahliha wa khayra ma fiha, wa a’udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha wa sharri ma fiha)) …
(Mustadrak Hakim: 1/614)
“O Allah! O Lord of the seven heavens and of all that they overshadow! O Lord of the seven earths and of all that they carry! O Lord of the devils and of all whom they mislead! O Lord of the winds and of all that they scatter! I ask You for the good of this settlement, the good of its people, and the good of what is in it, and I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of its people, and the evil of what is in it.”
