Nafi’ narrates that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to spend the night at Dhi Tuwa. When morning came, he would perform ghusl (ritual bath) and would order those with him to perform ghusl as well. He would enter Makkah from the direction of Thaniyyah ‘Ulya, but when leaving Makkah, he would go by the route of Thaniyyah Sufla. Then he used to say that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do the same.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … By "Thaniyyah ‘Ulya" is meant the upper mountain pass, through which a person would reach the gate of the graveyard of the people of Makkah, "al-Mu‘alla." This was also called "Hajun." It was an extremely difficult and rugged pass. In succession, Sayyiduna Mu‘awiyah, ‘Abd al-Malik, and Mahdi made it somewhat level and easier to traverse. Then, in 811 AH, it was further leveled, and later, in 820 AH, Malik Mu’ayyad completely leveled the entire pass. "Thaniyyah Sufla" is the lower pass near Bab Shabikah, which is close to Sha‘b al-Shamiyyin and Sha‘b Ibn al-Zubayr.
