It is narrated from Sayyida Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: We set out for Hajj in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When we reached the place of ‘Arj, Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) sat beside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I sat beside my father. The mounts and luggage of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) were in the custody of the slave of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting and waiting for the slave, but when he came, he did not have the camel with him. When he was asked where the camel was, he said: It got lost during the night. Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) became angry and said: There was only one camel, and you lost even that! Saying this, he began to beat him, while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was watching and smiling, and he said: Look at him, he is in the state of Ihram and see what he is doing.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From this hadith it is understood that a person in the state of ihram, while carrying out disciplinary action, may punish his slave. In any case, it is preferable to pardon him; this was indeed the intention of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Or, if it is necessary to administer punishment, then it should be postponed as much as possible until it becomes permissible (i.e., until the state of ihram is over).
