Safwan bin Ya’la bin Umayyah narrates that Sayyiduna Ya’la used to say to Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that I wish I could see the state of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when revelation was being sent down upon him. Later, one day when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was at the place of Ji’ranah, a cloth was providing shade over him, the companions were also with him, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was present as well. During this time, a man came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), wearing a cloak and emitting fragrance. He said: O Messenger of Allah! What is your opinion about a man who, after applying perfume well, puts on the Ihram for ‘Umrah in a cloak? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at him for a while and then remained silent. Revelation began to descend upon him. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gestured to Sayyiduna Ya’la (may Allah be pleased with him) to come closer, so Sayyiduna Ya’la (may Allah be pleased with him) came and put his head under the cloth. He saw that the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was turning red and he was snoring. This state remained for a while, then it passed. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Where is the man who was just asking about ‘Umrah? When that person was found and brought, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Wash off the perfume that is on you three times thoroughly, and take off this cloak, and perform all the rest of the acts for ‘Umrah as you do for Hajj.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … By "muqatta‘aat" is meant sewn garments; in the narration of Sahih Muslim, its explanation is given with "jubba," therefore, while translating, we have mentioned "jubba." "For ‘umrah, perform all the remaining acts just as you do in Hajj." By this is meant that just as you perform actions like tawaf, sa‘i, and shaving the head (hajamat) in Hajj, do likewise in ‘umrah; or its meaning is that those matters from which you abstain in the state of ihram for Hajj, you should also abstain from them in the ihram for ‘umrah.
