Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) had assumed the Ihram for Umrah, and the companions had assumed the Ihram for Hajj. According to the narration of Ruh, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and the companions had assumed the Ihram for Hajj. Those who did not have sacrificial animals with them became halal after performing Umrah, that is, they exited the state of Ihram. Sayyiduna Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) and another man were among those who did not have sacrificial animals, so they too became halal after performing Umrah.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) assumed the ihram for ‘umrah; this means that he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) also recited the talbiyah for ‘umrah, because he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) began this journey with the ihram for Hajj. According to this hadith, the change made in the ihram was that those people who had assumed ihram for Hajj and did not have sacrificial animals (hady) with them were commanded to perform ‘umrah, exit ihram, and become lawful (halal). From this chapter and other ahadith related to this topic, the following forms of combining Hajj and ‘umrah into one another are established:
1. A person who enters the miqat with only the talbiyah for Hajj may include ‘umrah in that same ihram. 2. A person who enters the miqat with only the talbiyah for ‘umrah may include Hajj in that same ihram. 3. A person who enters the miqat with only the talbiyah for Hajj may change that ihram into ‘umrah.
