Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: On the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage, we set out for Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I had put on the Ihram for Umrah and I did not have a sacrificial animal with me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Those who have a sacrificial animal with them should put on the Ihram for both Hajj and Umrah together, and they will open their Ihram after both. Meanwhile, I began menstruating. When the night of Arafah came, I said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that I had put on the Ihram for Umrah, so what will become of my Hajj now? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Uncover your head, comb your hair, abandon the Umrah, and put on the Ihram for Hajj. When I had performed Hajj, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed my brother, Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), so he took me to Tan’eem and I performed Umrah. This Umrah was in place of the Umrah for which I had previously put on Ihram.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyidah Aishah radi Allahu anha had entered into ihram only for ‘umrah, but due to menstruation (hayd), she had not yet been able to perform this ‘umrah when the days of Hajj were about to begin. When she presented her situation before the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam instructed her to change her intention from this ihram to Hajj Qiran, and she abandoned the ‘umrah and commenced this Hajj.
