Hadith 4210

Ishaq bin Yasar says: We were in Makkah when Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us and forbade performing Hajj Tamattu’ and he also denied that people had performed such a Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When this reached Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: What does Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) know about this? He should go and ask his mother, Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her), whether Sayyiduna Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) did not end his Ihram and his mother did. When Sayyida Asma heard this, she said: May Allah forgive Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), he has said something inappropriate, but by Allah, he has spoken the truth. Indeed, the people had ended their Ihram and we had also ended our Ihram, and the people had also had intercourse with their wives.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This hadith, with different wording, has already been mentioned a few chapters earlier in this chapter: “The statement regarding the permission to perform any one of Hajj Tamattu’, Hajj Ifrad, or Hajj Qiran.” See the second hadith of this chapter. “They have said something inappropriate.” By this, they could mean one of two things: (1) He should ask his mother, Asma’, about it; the reason this is inappropriate is that it implies that Sayyiduna Zubair radi Allahu anhu and Sayyidah Asma’ radi Allahu anha fulfilled the rights of marriage, whereas such an implication should not be made. (2) From this statement, it appears as if Sayyiduna Zubair radi Allahu anhu also became lawful (halal), whereas he did not become lawful; see hadith number (4213).
