It is narrated from Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give the verdict of the permissibility of Hajj Tamattu’ according to the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When people would say to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that your father forbade Hajj Tamattu’, then why do you oppose his command, he would reply to them: Woe to you, do you not fear Allah? If Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) forbade it, then his intention would also have been for good, that you perform ‘Umrah separately. Now why do you consider it unlawful, while Allah has made it lawful and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) acted upon it? Who is more deserving of being followed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) or the action of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)? Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) did not say to you that performing ‘Umrah in the months of Hajj is unlawful; rather, his statement was that a complete ‘Umrah is that you perform it separately, outside the months of Hajj.
