Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give the fatwa permitting Hajj Tamattu’. A man said to him: Refrain from some of your fatwas, because you do not know what the Commander of the Faithful has decreed regarding the rites of Hajj after you. Later, Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) met Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him about this. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I know that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Companions performed Hajj Tamattu’, but I do not like that these people spend the night under the trees of Araak with their wives and then, when they set out for Hajj, drops of water from their ritual bath are dripping from their heads.
