Hadith 4177

Narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: The crescent of Dhul-Hijjah was about to appear when we set out for Hajj in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever wishes to perform Umrah should enter into the state of Ihram for Umrah, and whoever wishes to enter into Ihram for Hajj should do so for Hajj. As for me, if I had not brought the sacrificial animal with me, I would have entered into Ihram for Umrah only. Sayyida (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Thus, some of the companions entered into Ihram for Umrah and some for Hajj. I also entered into Ihram for Umrah, but before entering Makkah, I began menstruating, and the day of Arafah was about to come while I was still in that state. I complained about this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Leave your Umrah, untie your hair and comb it, and enter into Ihram for Hajj. So I did as instructed. When it was the night of the valley of Muhassab, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent my brother Abdur Rahman with me towards Tan’im. He made me ride behind him, and I entered into Ihram for Umrah. This Umrah was actually in place of the previous Umrah. In this way, Allah Almighty enabled me to perform both Hajj and Umrah, and in this situation, there was neither a sacrificial animal, nor fasting, nor charity.
