Abdur Rahman bin Wahla (may Allah have mercy on him) said to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): "Indeed, when we go for jihad, leather and water skins are brought to us." He replied: "I do not understand what I should say to you, but I have heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Any leather that is tanned, indeed, it becomes pure.'"

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Before tanning, the hide is called "ihab," and after tanning, it is called "shann" and "qirbah." Imam Abu Dawud has transmitted this statement on the authority of Nadr bin Shumail, but this is not well-known among the linguists. Rather, what is well-known among them is that "shann" refers to an old, worn-out water skin, and "qirbah" refers to a general water skin. (Abdullah Rafiq)
