عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: سُئِلَ كَمِ اعْتَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: مَرَّتَيْنِ، فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: لَقَدْ عَلِمَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدِ اعْتَمَرَ ثَلَاثَةً، سِوَى الَّتِي قَرَنَهَا بِحَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ
Mujahid says that it was asked from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) how many Umrahs did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform? He said: Two. But Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) knows that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed a total of three Umrahs besides the Umrah of Hajj.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … According to a hadith in Sahih Bukhari, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar radi Allahu anhuma mentioned four ‘umrahs performed by the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. In this hadith, the ‘umrah of Hudaybiyyah and the ‘umrah performed during the Farewell Pilgrimage (Hajjat al-Wada‘) are not mentioned, because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was prevented from completing the former, and the latter was combined with Hajj, and thus was not independent like the other two ‘umrahs.
