Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performed a total of four ‘umrahs (minor pilgrimages):
1. The ‘Umrah of Hudaybiyyah, which was not completed; rather, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam returned from the way. This occurred in Dhu al-Qa‘dah, 6 AH. 2. The ‘Umrah of Qada’, which is the ‘umrah that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performed the following year in accordance with the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. This took place in Dhu al-Qa‘dah, 7 AH. What is meant here is not a compensatory ‘umrah (qada’), but rather, it was performed as a result of the settlement (qada’) with the polytheists. 3. The ‘Umrah of Ji‘ranah: When the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, after completing the Battle of Hunayn and the Battle of Ta’if, reached the place of Ji‘ranah and camped there, he performed this ‘umrah during that time. This occurred after the Conquest of Makkah, in 8 AH. 4. The ‘umrah performed along with the Farewell Pilgrimage (Hajjat al-Wada‘): The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performed Hajj Qiran, that is, he completed both Hajj and ‘umrah in a single ihram (state of consecration). The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performed Hajjat al-Islam in 10 AH.
The explanation of each ‘umrah is given in its respective chapter.
