Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him: The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: No woman should travel without a mahram. A man came to the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: My name has been registered for such-and-such a battle, while my wife wants to go for Hajj. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Go back and perform Hajj with her.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From this hadith it is understood that a woman cannot undertake any journey whatsoever, except that her mahram or husband is with her. In some ahadith, a restriction of three days is mentioned, in some two days, in some one day and night, in some one night, and in some one day’s journey. However, in reality, these are incidental restrictions; the fundamental ruling is that a woman cannot travel without her mahram or husband. The result of this is that a woman should not go for the performance of Hajj or Umrah without her mahram or husband. This is the position of the majority of the scholars, and they also say that she should not travel even with other women, even if they are trustworthy. This is what the apparent meaning of the evidences demands.
