Hadith 4089

Abu Imran Jouni says: We had gone for jihad towards Persia, at that time a companion narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever spends the night on such a roof that has no covering or barrier, and he falls and dies, then Allah’s protection is lifted from him. Similarly, whoever undertakes a sea journey while it is turbulent, and then he dies, Allah’s protection is also lifted from him.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is understood from this that a person is himself responsible for his own protection; if, apparently, there is a danger to his life, then there will be no guarantee of any kind of protection from Allah Ta'ala. The Shari'ah laws that Allah Ta'ala has established for the Muslim Ummah take into consideration the protection of human life, wealth, honor—in short, everything. I know of two individuals who, due to the absence of a railing on the roof, fell while sleeping and were severely injured.
