It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from the tribe of Khath’am came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: My father is a Muslim, but he has become so old that he does not have the strength to ride a mount, while Hajj has become obligatory upon him. So can I perform Hajj on his behalf? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Are you his eldest son? He replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Tell me, if your father had a debt and you paid it off on his behalf, would it be considered paid for him? He said: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then perform Hajj on his behalf.
