Hadith 4068

Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Performing Hajj once is obligatory upon every Muslim, and if I had said that it is obligatory every year, then it would have become so.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Hajj is an important pillar of Islam, and it is agreed upon by the Muslims that it is obligatory once in a lifetime upon every adult and capable Muslim. However, after this, encouragement has been given for performing voluntary (nafl) Hajj, as is understood from the ahadith of the previous chapter. According to the majority of the scholars, Hajj was made obligatory in the 6th year Hijri.
