Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman says that the mention of Laylat al-Qadr took place among us. So some people said that it moves throughout the year, meaning sometimes it comes in one month and sometimes in another month. So we went to Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). I said: Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him)! Did you hear anything from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding Laylat al-Qadr? He said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed i'tikaf in the middle ten days of Ramadan. And we also performed i'tikaf with him. When the morning of the twentieth came, you and all of us came out of i'tikaf. The knowledge of Laylat al-Qadr was definitely given to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but then that knowledge was made to be forgotten by him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I saw Laylat al-Qadr, then it was made to be forgotten by me. On that night, I saw myself prostrating in mud. Those who performed i'tikaf with me should return. Now seek this night in the odd nights of the last ten days. In the last part of that day, the sky rained heavily upon us. The roof of the mosque was made of branches. It started to leak. By the One who honored the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and revealed the Book to him, I saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was leading us in the Maghrib prayer and there was mud on his nose.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The mention of "Maghrib prayer" at the end of the blessed hadith is a mistake; this was an incident related to the Fajr prayer, as is evident from Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, among others, and also from the context of this very hadith. Because "Akhira tilka al-'ashiyyah" refers to the time after 'Isha or the last third of the night, thus after the rain that occurred at that time, it was indeed the Fajr prayer that was performed. The wording of one narration in Sahih Bukhari is as follows: On the twenty-first night, water began to drip from the roof of the mosque onto the prayer place of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. I myself saw the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, that when he turned after completing the Fajr prayer, his face was covered with mud and water. From this blessed hadith, it is understood that the twenty-first night was the Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr), because the sign that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam remembered was fulfilled on that very night.
