(Second chain) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) invited his brother Ubaidullah to eat on the day of Arafah, but he said: I am fasting. Upon hearing this, he said: You people are leaders and members of the Ahl al-Bayt, and for this reason, people follow your example. I saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) drank milk on this day after having it brought to him.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From these ahadith it is established that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the Rightly Guided Caliphs did not fast on the Day of Arafah during Hajj. However, a pilgrim performing Hajj al-Tamattu‘ who does not possess a sacrificial animal (hady) may fast on the dates of (9th, 11th, 12th, and 13th) of Dhu al-Hijjah.
