Hadith 3967

(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ): قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَرِيفُ مِنْ عُرْفَاءِ قُرَيْشٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ سَمِعَهُ مِنْ فَلْقٍ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((مَنْ صَامَ رَمَضَانَ وَشَوَّالًا وَالْأَرْبِعَاءَ وَالْخَمِيسَ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ))
(Second chain) The father of a Qurayshi chief narrated that he heard this hadith from the blessed mouth of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: Whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan and the month of Shawwal, and then on Wednesdays and Thursdays, will enter Paradise.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The virtue of fasting in Shawwal has already been mentioned in the previous chapter. The recommendation (mustahabb) of fasting on Thursday will be discussed next, in the following chapter. As for the specific virtue of fasting on Wednesday, it is not established by any authentic hadith. Nevertheless, it is permissible to fast on this day.
