Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In Sahih Muslim, the wording of a narration from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah is as follows: The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “None of you should perform ritual bath (ghusl) in standing water while he is in a state of major impurity (junub).” They asked: “O Abu Hurairah! Then what should he do?” He replied: “He should take water from it and bathe with it…” In the wording of the narration in Sunan Abu Dawud: “None of you should ever urinate in standing water, nor should he perform ritual bath (ghusl) in it due to major impurity (janabah)…” From these ahadith, it is understood that urinating in standing water and performing ritual bath (ghusl) of janabah in it are prohibited. The reason for this is that if the water is less than two qullahs, it will become impure (najis), and if it is more than two qullahs, then it is possible that urinating or the like in it may result in its taste, smell, or color changing, and thus it too will become impure. Even if it does not become impure, sound natural disposition (fitrah salimah) dislikes such actions.
