عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((إِذَا كَانَ النِّصْفُ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ، فَامْسَكُوا عَنِ الصِّيَامِ حَتَّى يَكُونَ رَمَضَانُ))
Syedna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When half of the month of Sha'ban has passed, then stop fasting until the month of Ramadan arrives.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to fast during most of the days of the month of Sha'ban, whereas in this hadith, fasting in the latter half of this month is being prohibited. For reconciliation between these narrations, see hadith number (3692).
