Hadith 3942

Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have seen that you fast in the month of Sha'ban more than in any other month?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is a month between Rajab and Ramadan that people are heedless of. It is a month in which the deeds of people are raised to the Lord of the worlds, and I wish that my deeds are taken up while I am fasting."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In this blessed hadith, the reason for fasting in Sha'ban has been mentioned. From the ahadith of this chapter, it is evident that after Ramadan, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to fast the most in Sha'ban, whereas the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam also forbade fasting in the second half of Sha'ban, as will be known from the ahadith of the next chapter. For reconciliation, see hadith number (3692).

An Objection and Its Answer:
Regarding the presentation of deeds before Allah Ta'ala, three types of ahadith have been narrated: (1) every day, (2) every Monday and Thursday, and (3) in Sha'ban. All three ahadith are authentic; the record of every day and then of every three days is presented separately, then after a year, the account of the year is presented, while the wisdom of this system is known only to Allah Ta'ala.
