Hadith 3889

Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Day of Arafah, the Day of Sacrifice, and the Days of Tashreeq are our festivals, the people of Islam, and these are days of eating and drinking.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah is permissible, rather, it is superior; its explanation is coming ahead. The days of eating and drinking are the days of Eid and the days of Tashreeq; predominantly, this has also been mentioned together. This day, too, is like Eid for the Muslims, just as Friday is. If we look at the pilgrims (hujjaj), they gather in the plain of ‘Arafat on this day and listen to the sermon. Other people spend this day with remarkable joy and happiness in preparation for Eid and sacrifices. Moreover, this day is also characterized by many virtues. The Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to observe voluntary fasts in various manners and sequences; their details are present in other books of hadith.
