Hadith 3876

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Abbad that he asked Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, while he was performing Tawaf of the House of Allah, "Did you hear the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbidding fasting on Friday?" He said, "Yes, by the Lord of this House!"

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The meaning of these narrations is absolutely clear that it is prohibited to fast only on Friday. However, the following narration is worthy of consideration: It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas'ud radi Allahu anhu, he says: "Indeed, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to fast three days from the beginning of every month, and he would rarely break his fast on Friday." (Ibn Majah, Nasa'i) In light of the above narrations, if it is decided that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would not fast only on Friday, but would combine it with fasting on Thursday or Saturday, then this would be better and all the texts would be acted upon.
