Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From the ahadith of this chapter, it is understood that fasting during the Days of Tashreeq is prohibited. In Hajj al-Tamattu', one is required to offer a hady (i.e., one goat, or one-seventh share of a camel or cow) as a sacrifice. However, a pilgrim who does not have the means to offer a sacrifice must fast for a total of ten days: three during the days of Hajj and seven after returning home. The days of Hajj in which fasting is to be observed are the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah and the Days of Tashreeq. Therefore, such a pilgrim may fast during the Days of Tashreeq. This is also the opinion of Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar radi Allahu anhu, Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha, Imam Malik, Imam Ahmad, Imam Awza'i, and Imam Ishaq. Further clarification of this issue will come in the Book of Hajj.
