Hadith 3844

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out from Madinah Munawwarah towards Makkah Mukarramah, and he was fasting. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the place of Usfan, he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for a vessel and placed it on his hand, until all the people saw him in this manner. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) broke his fast. That is why Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that (during travel) whoever wishes may fast, and whoever wishes may break the fast.
