Abdullah bin Abi Musa says: I asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about wisal (continuous fasting). She said: During the days of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the companions practiced wisal, but it became difficult for them. When the new moon was sighted, the companions mentioned this matter to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If the month had been longer, I would have prolonged the wisal as well. Someone asked: Do you yourself practice wisal, O Messenger of Allah? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I am not like you; I spend the night in such a state that my Lord feeds me and gives me drink.
