Hadith 3807

(وَمِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَالِثٍ) عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي سَعْدٌ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُمْ أُمِرُوا بِصِيَامِ يَوْمٍ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ بَعْضَ النَّهَارِ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! إِنْ فُلَانَةَ وَفُلَانَةَ بَلَغَهُمَا الْجَهْدُ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ
The Master of the Messenger narrates that people were commanded to fast for one day. During a part of the day, a man came and said: O Messenger of Allah! Such-and-such women are in great hardship because of the fast, but you, peace and blessings be upon you, turned away from him, … .
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Obscenity, uproar, abusive language, cursing and reviling, slander and backbiting, quarrels and disputes, lying, matters of ignorance—undoubtedly, these evil deeds do not invalidate the fast, but its reward is lost, and it is possible that the entire reward may be lost, as is understood from Hadith number (3803).
