Hadith 3803

It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Many fasting people are such that they gain nothing from their fast except hunger and thirst, and many who stand in prayer at night gain nothing from their standing except wakefulness.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … That is, despite enduring hardship, they are deprived of reward and recompense. It is necessary that any Muslim who wishes to perform acts of worship should strive to fulfill all their requirements; otherwise, he will become such a pitiable person who, after showing great patience by fasting during the day and standing in prayer at night, is sent back empty-handed at the time of reward distribution. May Allah protect us from this.
