Hadith 3796

(Third chain) They say: The wives of the Noble Prophet, Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), both narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would enter the morning in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah) due to intimacy with his wife, then he would perform ghusl before offering the Fajr prayer and would also fast that day. They say: When I mentioned this hadith to Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: This hadith is not known to me, however, Sayyiduna Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that hadith to me.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The wording of the narration in Sahih Bukhari is as follows: "KAZALIKA HADDATHANI AL-FADHL IBN ABBAS WAHUWA A'LAM," meaning: Sayyiduna Fadl ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu narrated it to me in this manner, and he is more knowledgeable regarding this matter.

The hadith has already been mentioned earlier that Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu gave the fatwa that a person who wakes up in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity) should not fast, and this information was conveyed to him by Fadl ibn Abbas. This is what is meant here. It has also been stated that Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, upon receiving the hadith, retracted from his previous position. (Abdullah Rafiq)
