Hadith 3734

(Second chain) Asim said: I asked Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him): At what time did you people eat sahur with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: The day had begun, but the sun had not yet risen.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … There is some discussion regarding the chains of narration of these ahadith; nevertheless, their apparent meaning is not being comprehended. And Allah knows best what is correct.

It is possible that the act of eating at the last time of suhoor (pre-dawn meal) has been described with such exaggeration that it is as if the sun had already risen, whereas in reality the sun had not yet risen. (Abdullah Rafiq)
