Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has said: Among My servants, the most beloved to Me are those who break their fast the earliest.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “People will remain upon goodness as long as they hasten in breaking the fast (iftar).” (Bukhari: 1957, Muslim: 1098)

And in Musnad Ahmad, in the hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Dharr radi Allahu anhu, the words ((وَاَخَّرُوالسحور)) are also present, meaning: along with hastening in breaking the fast (iftar), they also delay the pre-dawn meal (suhoor). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas radi Allahu anhu that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Hasten in breaking the fast (iftar), and delay the pre-dawn meal (suhoor).” (Al-Suyuti in “Al-Jami’ al-Kabir”, Al-Daylami: 2/1/3, Sahihah: 1773)

Thus, it is understood that one should break the fast (iftar) immediately after sunset, and delaying the pre-dawn meal (suhoor) means that it should be eaten at the last possible time. It has been observed that some sects have the habit of delaying iftar beyond sunset and announcing the end of suhoor before its actual time. From these narrations, it is clear that those who break their fast immediately after sunset are upon goodness.
