Hadith 3650

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I presented myself before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, command me to do an action that will admit me to Paradise. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Observe fasting, for there is no other deed like it. When I came to him again and made the same request, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Observe fasting.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam considered fasting (sawm) to be the most virtuous act for this man, as he instructed him to do so on both occasions, whereas in similar situations, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam indicated other deeds besides fasting for other questioners. In reality, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was wise (hakim) and like a physician, prescribing a remedy according to the condition of each individual.
