Hadith 3590

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) saw a man turning his mount to one side of the people. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Whoever has extra riding animal should give it to the one who does not have a riding animal, and whoever has extra provision should give it to the one who does not have provision. Upon hearing this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), it occurred to us that none of us has any right to anything surplus to his need.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … But do I have the right to ask myself whether we have ever sought out a needy person, felt compassion for him, and considered him deserving of a bicycle, motorcycle, rickshaw, or motor car? Or have we ever regarded it as an honor for ourselves to deliver provisions (ration) to his home? Certainly not. It is possible that our very outlook is that such a needy person does not even exist in our society, whereas it is equally possible that the constriction of sustenance has so destroyed people’s peace that they have become permanently afflicted with one illness or another.
