Hadith 3550

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that some Ansar people came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and they asked him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave them. Whoever among them kept asking him (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) kept giving him, until whatever he (peace and blessings be upon him) had was finished. When whatever he (peace and blessings be upon him) had was finished, he said: "Whatever wealth we have, we will not withhold it from you, but the reality is that whoever refrains from asking, Allah Almighty will keep him from asking; whoever expresses independence from people, Allah Almighty will make him independent; and whoever adopts patience, Allah Almighty will grant him the ability to be patient. And you will not be given any blessing (from Allah Almighty) that is more expansive than patience."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Whether anyone accepts it or not, at this time one of the greatest calamities afflicting the Muslim Ummah is that there is no longer any recognition or awareness of the rights of the beggar; extreme negligence is being shown in matters concerning orphans, the poor, and the needy. In fact, the situation has reached such a point that some wealthy people are not even willing to acknowledge the existence of the poor in their own surroundings, while in those very neighborhoods, Allah Ta‘ala’s pitiable creation is spending days and nights in hunger. Allah Ta‘ala, commanding the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, said: {فَأَمَّا الْیَتِیْمَ فَلَا تَقْھَرْ۔ وَأَمَّا السَّائِلَ فَلَا تَنْھَرْ۔} (Surah ad-Duha: 9, 10)) … “So do not oppress the orphan, and do not scold the beggar.” Allah Ta‘ala has, in several places in the Noble Qur’an, encouraged gentleness towards beggars and fulfilling their rights. An important issue is that of the beggars and mendicants of the present age: if someone wishes to investigate a beggar, he has absolutely no right to be harsh in this matter, and if according to his investigation the beggar does not prove to be deserving, then he should explain this to him with good manners, so that the words may settle in his heart, as is required by Hadith number (3507).
