Sayyida Umm Bujayd (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to come to us in the tribe of Banu Amr bin Awf, and I used to prepare sattu (barley porridge) for him in a wooden bowl. When he would come, I would serve it to him. (One day) I said: O Messenger of Allah! Sometimes a beggar comes to me and I do not give him anything because I consider what I have to be very insignificant. In another narration: I do not have anything to give him. (In such a situation, what should I do)? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You should put something in the hand of the needy person, even if it is a burnt hoof.
