Hadith 3544

Sayyiduna Khalid bin Adi Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever receives something (such as a gift, grant, or present) from his Muslim brother without asking for it and without greed, then he should accept it and not return it, for it is sustenance from Allah which He has drawn towards him.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In this context, it is necessary to mention that when some people are given a gift or are hosted, they display so much formality in accepting it that the poor person presenting the gift becomes distressed, and all the pleasure of the gesture is lost. If someone is offering such a thing, one should accept it with great happiness at once and express gratitude. However, if it is clearly apparent that the giver’s intention is flattery, or that he is doing this merely for show and beyond his means, then he should be advised about it later in a good manner.
