Hadith 3540

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: Whenever the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would give me something, I would say that you should give this to someone who is more in need than me, until once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me some wealth and I said: O Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), give this wealth to someone more needy than me. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You take it and become its owner, and (then if you wish) give it in charity. Whatever wealth comes to you without greed and without asking, you should accept it, and whatever does not come in this way, do not let your soul pursue it.
