It is narrated from Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik Ashja'i (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We, six or seven or eight individuals, presented ourselves before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: Pledge allegiance to me. I said: O Prophet of Allah! We have already pledged allegiance to you. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) again said: Pledge allegiance to me. So we pledged allegiance to him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) took from us the same pledge as he took from others. After that, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said a word to us in a low tone, and that was: Do not ask people for anything.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the narration of Sahih Muslim, the following clarification is present: Sayyiduna ‘Awf radi Allahu anhu says: We had only recently pledged allegiance (bay‘ah) to you, so when you sallallahu alayhi wa sallam demanded the pledge of allegiance, we said: O Messenger of Allah! We have already pledged allegiance to you. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam then said again: “Will you not pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah?” He sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said this three times, and the noble Companions kept responding in the same way, saying that they had already pledged allegiance to him. The last time, they said: O Messenger of Allah! We have already pledged allegiance to you once; now, upon what should we pledge allegiance? He sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Pledge that you will worship Allah, associate nothing with Him, establish the five prayers, and obey (me).” Then he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, in a low voice, also said this sentence: “And you will not ask people for anything.” I saw that if one of them dropped his staff from his mount, he would not even ask anyone to hand it to him.
