It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Zakat is not lawful for the wealthy, except for these five persons: the collector of zakat, the one who buys zakat property in exchange for his own property, the one who pays off someone else's debt (i.e., takes responsibility for payment), the one who fights in the way of Allah, and the wealthy person to whom a zakat-receiving needy person gives a gift.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is not necessary that the guarantor (the one who pays off someone’s debt) should make the payment from his own wealth, because in this matter his own person is not involved; therefore, to relieve himself of such a burden, he may also take zakat and may even ask (beg) for it. An agent belonging to the family of Muhammad (Aal Muhammad), however, cannot take a salary from zakat; this will be clarified in the next chapter.
In the Noble Qur’an, a total of eight categories for the disbursement of zakat have been mentioned. From this chapter, it is understood that the guarantor may also receive zakat and fulfill his responsibility. The question arises: if a person wishes to pay zakat, is it necessary for him to spend it on all these categories, or is his obligation fulfilled by spending it on just one category? The latter opinion is the preferred one; it is established from several ahadith and reports that zakat has been spent on just one category as well.
