عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((ثَلَاثٌ كُلُّهُمْ حَقٌّ عَلَى اللَّهِ عَوْنُهُ: الْمُجَاهِدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، وَالنَّاكِحُ الْمُسْتَعِفُّ، وَالْمُكَاتَبُ يُرِيدُ الْأَدَاءَ))
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is a right upon Allah to help three types of people: (1) the one who strives in the path of Allah, (2) the one who marries with the intention of maintaining chastity, and (3) the slave who has entered into a contract for his freedom and intends to fulfill it.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Mukatab: The slave who has made an agreement with his master to obtain freedom in exchange for a specified sum of money. Both ahadith are not explicit on the subject of freeing slaves from zakat wealth; nevertheless, the issue itself is correct that among the eight categories of zakat recipients, one category is the freeing of slaves, whether they are mukatab or non-mukatab.
