Hadith 3463

عَنْ أَبِي مَوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((إِنَّ الْخَازِنَ الْأَمِينَ الَّذِي يُعْطِي مَا أُمِرَ بِهِ كَامِلًا مُوَفَّرًا، طَيِّبَةً بِهِ نَفْسُهُ حَتَّى يَدْفَعَهُ إِلَى الَّذِي أُمِرَ لَهُ بِهِ أَحَدُ الْمُتَصَدِّقَيْنِ))
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The trustworthy treasurer who is ordered to give something, and he gives it fully to the person he was instructed to, with his own heart's pleasure, then he will be counted as one of the two who give charity.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Treasurers should not act in the manner of “the claimant is sluggish while the witness is swift,” but rather, whatever order is given to them by the owners regarding spending in matters of goodness and welfare, they should act upon it. They should not, in order to flatter the owners or to prove themselves as great well-wishers, suggest miserliness to them.

One is the actual owner of the wealth, and the other is the treasurer. Thus, although the treasurer is not spending from his own pocket, due to giving the wealth cheerfully and according to the owner’s instructions, he is deserving of reward and recompense just like the owner. This meaning applies when “al-mutasaqqīn” is read; if the plural word (al-mutasaqqīn) is used, then the meaning will be: he is one of those who give charity. (Abdullah Rafiq)
